It must be something seeing your kids have kids. Mom & Dad tell us frequently how well Matt & I are doing with the boys. I read/have read a couple of books trying not to screw them up (at least not beyond repair, right?) and Dad reminds me that the three of us turned out pretty good and there weren't a lot of books on the subject - or maybe it wasn't the thing. Either way - he's right...we all turned out pretty good.
But nothing in a book prepares you for the day your 2 1/4 year old son decides to take off his clothes and I had Sean & Joe to watch. Jake had a fever today so I had to get him from daycare early. After the miracle drugs of Tylenol and Motrin, he was back to his regular self. I guess he decided his pull up was full enough.
He undid one side of it, looked down and said "No stinkies in there" and proceded to take it off. He then smartly went for a diaper - one of Nick's. Eager to watch this unfold, I handed him a diaper of his own and watched him some more. He went over to his toddler sized sofa and tried to put the diaper on himself. Not so much - so I helped. He then put his shorts on-correctly.
Thinking we were on the right track, I turned back to the task at hand - feeding Nick. There goes Jake again, taking off his shorts. Then his diaper - which he then placed in a box I had just emptied from a delivery. He ran around giggling for a while and even managed to go in the potty.
I watched all of this unfold thinking I should grab a camera but I didn't want to distract him. I'm sure it's not as funny in words as it was in person, but thought you all might get a little kick out of it!

Trip to Killeen
The boys & I had a great time visiting in Killeen this last weekend. Matt had to work all weekend, so he wasn't able to join us on this trip.
They are both pretty good travelers - the DVD player helps and so did moving them on opposite sides of the SUV.
They enjoyed seeing everyone and showing off their talents of the moment. Jake showed just about everyone everything from whiney to smiley happy Jake. He was happy to get up in the morning at "Aunt Jill's House" where there were kitties for him to torment - I mean play with. One kitty did something to him - I'm still not sure what but he came running to me and said "the Kiy the kiy" I asked what the kitty said (DUH Mommy...) Jake replied, "the kitty said meow meow" - I fell out laughing so Jake kept repeating it.
We got to visit Big Rick and Gramma Eva. Jake played hauled their cooler on wheels all over the pool deck. Sunday afternoon, he wheeled it right over to Eva, fished below the bottles of beer to the cans of her preferred beer and handed her one. What a kid, huh? Nana better lock the fridge before we get there for Thanksgiving or everyone will be getting beer!
Pictures to follow!

Testing Video - FINALLY!
Here is the long-awaited attempt at posting a video. It may not be long-awaited - but it was definitely long-aworking-on! Here is Jake singing, talking to Bapaw, and discovering the fun of seeing himself on the webcam!

Okay, last post for now...
Little Gym Day
Yesterday was Little Gym Day! We've moved it to Saturdays so Daddy can come play some, too. Jake loves the little gym - has a blast whenever we go. He likes to walk on the beam and swing on the bar - we had him watching Olympic gymnastics on TV - and he can identify the beam and the bars. Nick is a little small, yet. Wethink we'll try him out once he starts walking. Enjoy some pics of Little Gym Day...
Brotherly Love
So these first two posts are from a couple of weeks ago. Rare shots of Jake not screaming MINE at Nick - regardless of what Nick is doing. :)
Then today, they decided they could play together...in the kitchen of all places. Jake has always liked my pots and pans - ever since he could get himself over to them...he was all about them. Today, he introduced Nick to them. Jake is also a big fan of Peek a Boo. So, after Jake emptied 1/2 of my cabinet, he climbed in and played Peek with Nick who was having a good time playing. At one point, we tried to get Nick to sit in the cabinet, too, but it didn't work. So...enjoy some even rarer shots of them enjoying themselves TOGETHER! Not sure which of the four of us enjoyed it more - if you've ever heard Jake laugh - it's absolutely infectious!
I look forward to the MINE phase ending - but I expect that it will get worse (with two of them at it) before it gets better...

They are soooo smart!
Matt & I are always amazed at how smart those boys are. Jake picks things up with speed that astounds the both of us and remembers!
He & Matt picked up pizza ONE time a couple of weeks ago - and still everytime we go by, he sees it and says "Pizza". He can identify Krogers and Walmart - by name (think we go too much?)
He reminded us again last night when we were eating dinner. He recently graduated to a booster seat at the table (vs his high chair NEAR the table). The chair happened to be the one Nana sat in when she and Bapaw visited. Jake pointed at the chair next to him and said "Bapaw Chair!" So, we told him good job. He pointed at his seat and said "Nana's Chair!" We think he's trying to say it's time for a visit!
I was talking on the phone the other night and Jake came running "MY NANA!" It wasn't Nana, so we had to call Nana so Jake could talk to her and crack her up.
Jake has a ride on fire truck that he loves (and so does Nick - it's a big source of the Me/Mine game...). He rides it to get gas, to school to see Donna & Kandice and to work. What an imagination.
Nick is a curious sort - just like Jake was. He's always pulling up on something. At 9.5 mo, I missed my guess - that he'd be walking at 9 mos... Sometimes he antagonizes Jake and we can't always tell if it's intentional or innocent.
I'm sure, more stories to come!

What do ya know....
I didn't follow thru with the posts. Here it is 7.5 mos later and I'm going to try to get everyone (sort of) caught up. I'm inspired by Em - hopefully I can keep it up this time.
House didn't sell - we had to rent it out. That's okay, it's all part of my plan to go back. Let's see if the Army agrees...
Arkansas still leaves something to be desired. It's definitely not home and that feeling is probably largely helped by the fact that I KNOW it's only temporary. Although - next June is a ways off, it can't get here soon enough for me!
I started working again - in real estate, again. It's part time and going pretty well. The boys are in day care and having a great time after a little transition period. Jake loves going to "school" and waves to his school and the sister school in the next town whenever we pass by. "Bye school, Morrow" (That's See you tomorrow!) On the way TO school about 1/2 mile out, he starts saying "School, where are you?" "There you are!" Nick loves his regular "teachers." They had some fill ins and whenever they were there, he would apparently scream. He's been much better the last couple of weeks. Crazy kids. Everyone loves how smily they are.
I'm sure there is more but I can't remember what else right now. Just a few recent shots you probably saw them already...
Until Later!
